Meet the Team

At Beyondbmi, we understand that support and collaboration produce the best health outcomes for our clients. We deliver this by having a diverse expert team that understands how to provide value at specific phases of our client's weight loss journey.

We are incredibly proud of our team.

  • Founder

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more.

  • Professor Carel le Roux (MBChB, MSC, FRCP, FRCPath, PhD) graduated from medical school in Pretoria South Africa, completed his Senior House Officer training at Barts and The London Hospital, his SpR training in metabolic medicine at the Hammersmith Hospitals and his PhD at Imperial College London.

He received the President of Ireland Young Researcher Award from Science Foundation Ireland, a Clinician Scientist Award from the National Institute Health Research in the UK and a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship amongst others.

After establishing a successful independent research group he published numerous high impact papers over the years that have influenced his field. In particular, his translational research on the understanding of the physiological role and pathological changes in appetite control and the impact of bariatric surgery on diabetes has been widely acknowledged.

Working within the Diabetes Complications Research Centre and the Section of Surgery and Surgical Specialities the focus of his research is primarily concerned with increased mortality and morbidity associated with obesity and diabetes. A better mechanistic understanding of how the "gut talks to the brain" will allow safer and more effective treatments to be used in future. To this end the role of gut hormones, bile acids and changes in food preference are areas of interest.

  • Lead Nutritionist

Dr Werd Al-Najim is a Clinical Nutritionist and a Research Fellow at University College Dublin/Ireland. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition science from Kingston University/UK and a PhD from Imperial College London/UK where she investigated changes in eating behaviour and food preferences after obesity treatments. She also holds a health coaching certificate from the Integrative Nutrition School/New York and a Cognitive Behavior Therapy certificate from City Colleges/Dublin.

Werd has a special interest in obesity research and has contributed to high impact publications in journals including Physiological Reviews, Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology, and The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.

  • Dr Alexander Miras is currently a senior clinical lecturer and consultant in endocrinology at Imperial College London.

He is interested in the mechanisms through which lifestyle interventions, pharmacotherapy, bariatric surgery and medical devices improve weight, metabolic control and diabetes-related microvascular complications.

  • Dietitian

Hazel is a registered practising dietitian with a special interest in weight management and type 2 diabetes.

Alongside her role here at BeyondBMI, she works full time as an obesity research dietitian at a well known Dublin hospital.

At Beyondbmi, I’m most excited about…

Really getting to know my clients and building great working relationships with them as well as having the opportunity to work in a very exciting area of healthcare alongside specialists who have a vast amount of experience behind them

  • Health Coach

Paul’s journey to becoming a Health Coach began with experiencing his own challenges with maintaining a healthy weight. He personally experienced the powerful changes that nutrition and simple lifestyle shifts have on both body and mind. This really inspired him and he felt a new calling to help as many people as possible to feel better too.

In 2017 he made the decision to switch careers and retrained as a Nutrition and Health Coach at the Irish Institute of Nutrition & Health (IINH). Today he loves what he does and I’m dedicated to helping people improve their well-being.

What attracted him to Beyondbmi is its mission and values. He resonates deeply with Beyondbmi’s emphasis on non-judgement and their multidisciplinary approach to helping clients.

At Beyondbmi, I’m most excited about…

Being able to reach and help a lot of people. My intention is to support our clients by offering more mindfulness and self-compassionate tools to support them on their well-being journey

In my free time I love to play and record music, going to art galleries and walking in nature.
