Orlistat/Xenical, Benefits and Side effects
Orlistat/Xenical is a medication that only works in the gut. Orlistat/Xenical is not absorbed into the bloodstream and has zero side effects. But the effect of Orlistat/Xenical is that it blocks a third of the fat you eat.
To say. For example, if you eat 100 G of fat, 30 G will come out of the South Pole and cause terrible diarrhoea, but 70 g get absorbed into the bloodstream.
And that's why people have diarrhoea but don't lose weight.
But if we help you with nutritional strategy and reduce the amount of fat you eat, and you, for example, only have 10 G
of fat in your meal now, only 3 G will come out of the South Pole, which is not enough to cause diarrhoea.
But of course, 10 G in 3 G out means only 7 G goes into the bloodstream. And that is why the patients lose weight.
But patients who have a very low-fat diet, when they take Orlistat/Xenical, don't have any diarrhoea because there is no fat to malabsorb, but it also means that they don't lose any weight.
Other patients who have a high-fat diet and who make a change and reduce the amount of fat they eat have substantial weight loss. But patients to have a high-fat diet cant change their diet. They do not lose any weight because they are malabsorbing fat but still absorb 70% of the fat they've eaten.
So only a small number of people respond when they take Orlistat/Xenical. But those who respond lose about 5 to 7% of their total weight. Some patients take the medication and don't respond. And, of course, they won't lose any weight.
We can tell within three months whether or not this medication works for you, and if it works, we continue, but if it doesn't work, we stop and change to another treatment.
